Today is the world famous Nobel Prize Day. Aligarh Muslim University also houses a gold Nobel Prize. Yes, this Nobel Prize was awarded to Pakistani physicist Prof. Abdussalam had achieved this after a lifetime of hard work, but he remained the target of fundamentalists in his own country.
Being a member of the Ahmadi community, he had to endure repeated insults. Fed up with these activities of Pakistani fundamentalists, he gifted his precious Nobel Prize to Aligarh Muslim University 44 years ago. This memorable gift of his is still preserved in the Maulana Azad Library of the University. The university has a deep association with the Nobel Prize and its winners. So far, five Nobel Prize winners have come to the university.
Prof. of Pakistan for his unforgettable contribution in the field of Physics. Abdussalam received this Nobel Prize. Pro. Salam proved the electroweak integration principle mathematically. For this achievement Salam, Glasow and Weinberg were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1979. He gave his Nobel Prize to AMU in the year 1980. This Nobel Prize is made of gold. He was awarded the honorary degree of D.Sc. at a special convocation of the University on 24 January 1981.
